A lakefront garage sustained heavy damage in a first alarm fire on Cattle Landing Road.

Meredith Fire Chief Chuck Palm said the department had received calls of fire coming through the roof of a building on Cattle Landing Road which is located at the tip of Meredith Neck.

The first call for equipment and manpower was sounded by Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid at 7:05 p.m. and a first alarm was called 7:10 p.m., calling for crews from Meredith, Center Harbor, Holderness, and Moultonborough.

Palm said crews from Meredith, Center Harbor, and Holderness arrived at 62 Cattle Landing Road and quickly extinguished the fire that heavily damaged the second floor of a two-story garage before crews from Moultonborough arrived.

The garage was a separate structure from the lakeside house, listed to Robert and Laurie Swett.

Palm said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The garage was located up a narrow hill on Cattle Landing Road, causing crews to stage several feet down as police blocked off that section of the road.

Meredith police conducted traffic control as New Hampton covered Meredith's station.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Wednesday evening.
