Chris Mongeon, general manager of Sodexho Dinning Services at Plymouth State University, received the chamber's James C. Hobart Award for Exemplary Volunteer Service at the chamber's annual meeting. The award, established in 1994, is given annually to an individual or organization deemed by the Chamber to best exemplify the spirit of volunteering.
Mongeon is described by friends and colleagues as a person who gets things done. He has been very active in Habitat for Humanity, including serving as board president for a number of years. He was also active in the Plymouth Lions Club, including serving on its board, He and his wife have gone above and beyond the call of duty during the Pakistani Teachers' Institutes at Plymouth State University, taking teachers on trips to see the region. They also have opened their home to host several foreign exchange students.
Mongeon has worked for Sodexho for more than 15 years and has been at Plymouth State University for eight of those years. He is highly regarded in the food service industry and is called upon to conduct trainings throughout the region and nationally for the company. He holds a national certification in restaurant safety and sanitation.
He served on the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce board of directors from 1999 to 2005. He was the chamber vice president from 2001 to 2004 and served as board president from 2004 to 2005.
Chamber officers for 2008-2009 also were announced at the annual meeting. They are: Tammy Niles of Comfort Keepers, president; Carol Marhan of Northway Bank, vice president; Ronda Kilanowski of Malone, Dirubbo & Co., treasurer and Keith Philbrick of Community Guaranty Savings Bank, secretary.
