LACONIA — The following indictments have been issued by the latest Belknap County grand jury.
A Tilton man who allegedly possessed cocaine has been indicted for the crime. Craig E. French, 54. 822 Laconia Road, #2, is alleged to have possessed the drug in September in his hometown. The grand jury that met Nov. 6 also returned a special felony charge of possession of cocaine with intent to sell against French. French was also charged with Class A misdemeanors of simple assault and resisting arrest. Court documents allege that French elbowed a Tilton police officer in the chest and ran away from another officer.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, but rather an indication that an independent jury has voted after hearing from police that sufficient evidence exists to warrant a Superior Court trial.
Assault with razor blade
A Moultonborough man who is alleged to have slashed a man's scalp with a razor blade has been indicted for second-degree assault. Gary Sturgeon, 20, 37 Moultonborough Neck Road, is alleged to have caused a severe head laceration to Kory MacDonald on Sept. 17 in Meredith.
Leaving accident scene
A Belmont man who allegedly hit and killed a motorcyclist has been indicted for leaving the scene of an accident. Joshua T. Hollins, 23, 85 Seavey Road, Belmont is charged with failed to stop or contact police after his 2005 Chevy pickup truck collided with a motorcycle driven by John Bastis on Rte. 106 in Belmont on July 3. Bastis died as a result of the collision. Police previously said it appeared Bastis crossed the center line and struck Hollins. The charge is a Class B felony potentially punishable by 3.5 to seven years in prison.
Check forgery
A city woman police charge is involved in a check forgery scheme was indicted on multiple charges in connection with the alleged crimes. Susan Weeks, 31, whose last known address was 121 New Salem St., was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit forgery and 13 counts of forgery and one count of theft by deception. She is charged with forging checks worth more than $4,500.
Kathleen F. Green, 49, 100 South Fruit St., Concord was indicted of two Class B felony counts of forgery for allegedly presented two forged checks at two separate church bingo games in Laconia in September 2007.
Tampering with evidence
Ryan Labree, 18, 7 Sargent Place, #22, Gilford was indicted on a Class B felony charge of falsifying physical evidence. He is alleged to have burned business cards and receipts knowing a police investigation was ongoing. The grand jury also returned a Class A misdemeanor charge of theft by unauthorized taking against Labreer for allegedly stealing a wallet from a GMC Yukon in Gilford in July.
Sex assault
A Rochester man who allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with a child in Alton has been indicted. Phillip Libby, 19, 149 Dry Hill Road, was charged with felonious sexual assault, a Class B felony. The indictment charges that Libby has sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl in February.
Drug possession
A Tamworth woman has been indicted of two special felony charges for drug possession. Jami Longo, 22, 61 Bunker Hill Road, is alleged to have possessed Buprenorphine and amphetamine in Meredith in June.
Nancy McCormack, 37, 56 U.S. Rte. 4 East, Mendon, Vt., was indicted on special felony counts of possession of the drugs propoxyphene and alprazolam in Meredith in August.
Calyn Stone, 22, 300 Little Chatham Road, South Chatham was indicted on a special felony charge of possession of cocaine in Meredith in January.
Joshua Marsh, 32, who is now being held at the Belknap County Department of Corrections jail, was indicted on a special felony charge of possessing the drug alprazolam in Laconia in July. The grand jury also returned a Class A misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession against Marsh.
Stolen property
Timothy White, 31, 30 Karen Drive, Belmont was indited for receiving stolen saws and an extension cord valued at more than $1,000 from Laconia in September.
Burglary
Brian Collins, 22, 1 N.H. Rte. 140, Gilmanton was indicted on two Class B felony counts of burglary in Gilford and Belmont in August.
Habitual offender
Paul Hewitt, 46, 32 Appleton St., Laconia was indicted for driving in Meredith in September after being declared a habitual offender. The grand jury also returned a Class A misdemeanor charge of disobeying an officer against Hewitt for allegedly giving a false name and date of birth to police.
