Part of Route 104 had to be closed for a time after a tractor trailer truck flipped on its side in the westbound lane, just below the Waukewan Street intersection.

Peter Smith, 40, of Canterbury, was the driver and sole occupant of the tractor-trailer. He was taken by ambulance to Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia for observation and evaluation of what Meredith Police Officer Deborah Dickinson said were minor injuries.

The accident which occurred Monday around 7:05 a.m., remains under investigation, said Dickinson. She said it did not appear that speed, alcohol or weather were contributing factors.

The tractor and trailer, which is owned by Associated Grocers of New England and was empty, struck the guardrail along the right inner travel lane before flipping over on the shoulder, said Dickinson.

She added that Route 104 was shut down to all traffic for about 30 minutes, resulting in detours. All four travel lanes were quickly re-opened but investigators remained on scene for more than three hours.
