Red Cross comes to the aid of Moultonboro family who lost house to fire

A father and son displaced by a fire have received aid from the Red Cross after a pre-dawn fire destroyed their residence.

According to the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Association log, fire crews from Moultonborough, Center Harbor, Sandwich, Meredith, Holderness, Ashland, and Meredith EMS were called to structure fire on Winaukee Road in Moultonborough at 2:45 a.m. on Monday.

The Granite Chapter of the American Red Cross reported Tuesday that the organization came to the aid of a father and son who had been displaced in a fire that destroyed a mobile home Moultonborough.

The Red Cross said fire officials said the residence was destroyed at the family lost all its belongings. Ironically, Tuesday was the son's 11th birthday.

Volunteers from the Granite Chapter of the Red Cross were on the scene to help the family with emergency food, warm clothing, and household supplies. According to the Red Cross, the father and son were able to stay with friends and lodging assistance was not needed.

The volunteers are part of the Lakes Region Disaster Action Team, one of seven teams in the chapter's jurisdiction. Team members are specially trained by the Red Cross to provide disaster relief and emotional comfort and are available to respond at any time of day or night to disasters in their communities or surrounding towns.

Fire officials were unavailable for comment as of Tuesday evening.
