A late-evening fire destroyed a newly built cottage in Moultonborough.

At 11:29 p.m. on Wednesday, fire and rescue crews from Center Harbor were called to a structure fire on 114 High Haith Road, located over the line into Moultonborough.

The fire was called to a first alarm at 11:35 p.m., bringing crews from Moultonborough, Meredith, Laconia, Holderness, and the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association.

Fire Chief John Schlemmer of the Center Harbor Fire Department said the building was a cottage that was under construction and the fire likely started due to construction issues.

No one was in the building or around the area at the time of the fire.

"It's a total loss," Schlemmer said, adding that it was a "difficult place to get to."

The Moultonborough Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
