The Division of Motor Vehicles is about to take an important step into the 21st century — the renewal of driver’s licenses will be available online for many of New Hampshire’s motorists.

The official announcement will made Monday by Gov. John Lynch and Department of Safety officials. Eligible drivers will be able to renew their licenses online once every 10 years.

Among the ineligible will be drivers over the age of 75 and others who might have to be retested.

It’s been a long time coming, but it is almost here. It will save eligible drivers a trip to a DMV office and their licenses will be for a longer term.

It’s the right way to go and it is overdue.
