GILFORD — Parties had been here from Boston and New York this week "looking over Governor's Island with a view to buying it from the mortgagees, who have set a price of $62,000 on the property, The Citizen reported, 75 years ago this week.

"The island embraces about five miles of undeveloped shore front. Attorney General Johnston has notified the owners that the bridge between the island and the mainland must be raised to 15 feet above the water, in accordance with a court order issued in 1923," the 1935 account added.
