Alice Morris Crothers
LACONIA — Alice Morris Crothers passed away peacefully at the Taylor Community Home on Jan. 29, 2012. She was 99 years old.
Born and reared in Ohio, she graduated from Wooster College. She taught school for several years (helping to put her younger sister through college) before marrying her college sweetheart, Bob Crothers, in 1936. They honeymooned in Europe for perhaps the most memorable year of their life together.
Alice assisted her husband’s career as a Presbyterian minister as they served churches in Malone, N.Y., Decatur, Ill., Topeka, Kansas, and Oak Ridge, Tenn. They retired in Oak Ridge and lived there for 27 years before moving to the Lakes Region in New Hampshire to be near their daughter, Kathy Woodward, and her family.
Alice’s hobbies included volunteer work, bridge, golf, hiking, gardening and reading. She enjoyed being with people and with her family, especially every Saturday with Kathy.
In addition to Kathy, she is survived by her son-in-law, Pete Woodward; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, with a ninth due in May.
Bob Crothers passed away in 2003 and their other daughter, Penny, passed away in 1971.
There was a remembrance service on Feb. 1 by the Taylor Community. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
The family suggests that any memorials be in the form of gifts to Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, PO Box 6106, Oak Ridge TN 37831-6106.
