Town Meeting Letters
As the annual town meetings approach, The Citizen, like many other newspapers, gets inundated with letters to the editor, many of them well beyond the length limit we have set in order to fit them into the print edition. Even those that do come in within the proscribed lengths are so numerous that it is unlikely there will be space to print them all.
In cases such as this, the online edition can come to the rescue. There are no limits in cyberspace, other than the length of time it takes to process the letters. In the coming days, we'll be posting online the letters that do not make it into print, in order to give everyone a chance to have their say.
Currently, we are running letters that came in about a week ago, and we print letters in the order in which they are received — except when there is a particularly timely letter that needs to get in right away. The other exception is that the extremely long letters have to wait for space for us to run them as Community Commentaries, and there is a huge backlog there.
So, those who have not seen their letters appear in print may find them at citizen.com in the coming week as we approach town meeting day.
