MA's fans beat Derryfield, too

Moultonborough Academy's student section holds up fat heads of the players during Tuesday's win over Derryfield in the Division IV semifinals.o. 5 Derryfield wasn't only dwarfed by the 6-foot-8 Marcus Swedberg and No. 1 Moultonborough's sizeable front line Tuesday, it was also dwarfed in the bleachers.
Students, past players and other members of the community showed up in droves to give the Panthers a home-court feel in their 48-26 thrashing of the Cougars at Plymouth State. The right-side bleachers were filled from top to bottom. The side for Manchester-based Derryfield was not. The Cougars' student section in the upper corner on the left side was puny in comparison.
The atmosphere wasn't close to that of Newmarket and Littleton in the early game, but you have to give the nod to the MA students and their homemade fat heads. The players' faces looked ridiculous, and capturing Marcus with his in-game eyewear was a nice touch.
The Panthers certainly fed off the heavy support. They trailed for exactly 38 seconds in the first quarter before taking the lead and adding to it at the end of each quarter. Moultonborough gets No. 2 Littleton in the championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. Expect the game -- and the crowds -- to be a little more even.
