Doris Ewens
LENOIR, N.C. — Doris Cora Flanders Ewens, 95, of Redbud Place, Lenoir, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at the residence.
She was born Feb. 16, 1917, in New Hampton, N.H., to the late William F. and Laura E. Willey Flanders.
Mrs. Ewens was a caretaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was an avid hunter and fisherman. She shot her first wild boar in 1949. She enjoyed craft work, loved working in flowers, and loved animals. She also enjoyed traveling and playing cards. She was a Grange member and never met a stranger. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Ewens; daughter Eleanor Civetti; two sisters, Clara Bucklin and Arlene Dole; and four brothers, Harry Flanders, Donald Flanders, Donald Willey, and Joseph Willey.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lois Glines of Lenoir and Mrs. Ruby Bouley Brown and husband Dwight of Sun City, Ariz.; one brother, John Willey of Warner, N.H.; one sister, June Favre of Northfield, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Terri Kim Chase, Vicky Frie and husband Robert, Wanda Every and husband Reese, Sherri Brandt and husband Randy, Robert LaPage and wife Lisa, Stephen LaPage and wife Lois, Jody LaPage and wife Beverly, and Walter Gahagen; 16 great-grandchildren; and six greatgreat grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Gurney Robbins. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
