D-III baseball, softball tournaments ironed out
Division III baseball and softball tournaments start Sunday with the "play-in" round all across the state. Four local teams will have to play Sunday to try to earn their spots in the field of 16.
In baseball, No. 13 Belmont will host No. 20 White Mountains at 4 p.m. The Red Raiders narrowly missed out on qualifying as a top 12 team, which would have guaranteed an off day Sunday.
No. 18 Winnisquam will try to extend its season by travelling to play No. 15 Newport.
In softball, No. 16 Belmont hosts No. 17 Hillsboro-Deering on Sunday at 4 p.m. No. 20 Prospect Mountain hits the road to play No. 13 Fall Mountain.
Baseball will play its first round Thursday. No. 8 Franklin will host No. 9 Inter-Lakes in a rematch of two regular season games. The Lakers won both contests in early May.
Also on Thursday: No. 5 Newfound hosts Bow and No. 7 Prospect Mountain hosts Berlin.
In softball, Gilford earned the No. 2 seed and will host either No. 15 Raymond or No. 18 Newport on Wednesday. No. 6 Franklin hosts Hopkinton, while No. 9 Winnisquam hits the road to play No. 8 Bow.
All games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
